Setting up
From paper to alarm in three steps.
- 01
Stick it where the task is
Put each label somewhere you have to walk to: the bathroom, the kettle, the front door. For alarms, somewhere out of reach of your bed is the whole point.
- 02
Save it in Orbit Alarm
Open Settings › Codes Storage, type the label’s name, then tap SCAN TO CAPTURE and scan the label (or type the code printed under it), and tap STORE.
- 03
Attach it
In an alarm, switch on OVERSLEEPING COUNTERMEASURES, choose Wake up QR / Barcode Scan and pick the code. (Full guide.) For a task, turn on Require barcode scan. Timers and the Stasis Pod bedtime signal can use codes too.
Printing tips
- Print at 100% scale, on matte paper if you can. Glossy paper and lamination can glare under bright light.
- Make sure there’s some light where the label goes. Codes are hard to scan in the dark.
- Keep a spare copy somewhere safe in case a label gets lost or damaged. Just not on your bedside table, which defeats the point.
Frequently asked questions
Do these codes work with other alarm apps?
They’re standard QR codes, so any app that can register and scan a QR code can use them. The setup steps on this page are for Orbit Alarm.
Is it a problem if someone else has the same code?
No. Orbit Alarm keeps your codes on your phone, and only the codes you’ve saved can switch off your alarms. Each code on your sheet is different from the others, which is what matters.
What’s the text under each code for?
It’s the value inside the QR code. If you’d rather not scan when you set things up, you can type it into Orbit Alarm instead. You still have to scan the label to switch an alarm off.
I lost or damaged a label. What now?
Print a new sheet, register the new code in Codes Storage, and pick it for the alarm or task instead. For alarms, Emergency Dismiss is there if you really can’t reach a code.
Is anything I type here sent to you?
No. The codes and label names are made in your browser and never leave your device.
Don’t have Orbit Alarm yet?
An Android alarm that makes you prove you’re awake. Free, with no account needed. Built with ADHD in mind.
